Printing buildings from 3D Warehouse

I pulled down a few models from the Warehouse thinking I could print them, but as it turns out, most of the models in the warehouse have little or no detail on them because of the image maps and printing one of these would be rather boring. I found a few cool buildings with detail, but the more detail I found on the building, the mode "holes" I found that would not allow me to print them models. Here are a few of my problems on the Frank Lloyd Wright Robie house.

-windows: don't trust that windows are drawn right, most of the windows in this model were not closed, there were gaps in the frame and in the glass. fixing every hole took a lot of time so creating new windows as components would have ended up being the fastest fix for this model.

-doors: treat them just like windows

-roofs: easiest to re-draw if possible. there were a lot of roof problems I ran into, something was wrong with the original planes that created the roof on the Robie house (rob1) and there were holes in the eave too.

-any type of overhang: make sure you track them all the way around the model.

-small details: depending on the scale of the model, i removed them or re-drew simpler versions. on the Solaire house I re-drew some roof objects, on the Spaceneedle I re-drew details as components and used existing details to know where to place the new printable ones.

-corners: this model had a lot of hidden corners that were not closed. an inside corner is not visible from most angles of the model so it took some searching to find these holes and fill them.
