Additional modeling tips for FormZ users

Thankfully Form Z has a great terrain generator so there isn't a whole lot to say about making a good solid terrain for printing. Just make sure the mesh remains a well formed solid (using the query tool).

The foundation of buildings with reference to the terrain is one source of potential problems. Often the bases of columns and foundation walls do not go far enough in to the terrain and leave a visible gap when you print the model. I have been guilty on several occasions of missing this in the CAD model. i€ think it occurs frequently because of the difference between contour lines in 2D and the inferenced mesh in reality.

Whether drawing for Viz or 3D printing I would suggest drawing the base of your walls, posts, and anything else that hits the ground, all the way to the base of your terrain.
If you are using BIM I can understand this not being possible, but remember to draw all the way down to the frost line and not just to the bottom of the wall section.
